The patina develops within a few weeks to months, depending on the weather conditions.

Rain and moisture accelerate the process. Initially, the surface may appear uneven, but over time, a uniform, warm rusted look develops, which protects the material.

Unlike conventional steel, no destructive corrosion occurs.

Over time, Corten steel forms a natural noble rust patina.
In the initial phase, as with any rusting metal, heavy rain can lead to slight rust runoff.

Once the protective patina has fully formed, the surface is sealed and the material is stable. After that, no more staining usually occurs.

💡 Tip:
If you are laying sensitive, very light stone surfaces directly adjacent, we recommend a short cover or a small gap during the initial phase.

Thanks to its 1 mm material thickness and protective patina, Corten steel is designed for long-term use.

With normal use in the garden, the lawn edging remains dimensionally stable and functional for many years to decades, without losing stability.

For a secure and stable installation, the lawn edging strip should generally be buried approximately one-third to one-half of its height in the ground.

For a height of 15 cm, this means:
👉 approx. 5–8 cm embedment depth is usually sufficient for normal garden soils.

It is important that the strip is installed evenly and firmly in the ground. In very loose or sandy soil, a slightly deeper embedment may be useful. In stony or very hard soil, it is recommended to dig a narrow trench beforehand.

Thanks to the 1 mm material thickness, the lawn edging strip remains dimensionally stable in the ground and can withstand lateral soil pressure – especially with curved layouts.

For straight, particularly heavily stressed boundaries (e.g., along paths or heavily compacted areas), the more massive lawn edging elements offer additional stability.

Yes. The lawn edging can be cut to the desired length with suitable tools (e.g., an angle grinder or hacksaw) if necessary.

Corten steel is more solid and durable than many galvanized or plastic lawn edgings. It forms a natural protective patina that permanently preserves the material, entirely without coating or additional treatment.

Furthermore, we use 1 mm material thickness with deburred edges. This construction ensures higher stability, more safety, and long-term dimensional stability.

Our lawn edging is supplied in the natural raw state of Corten steel. It is not artificially pre-weathered with chemicals.
The typical noble rust patina only forms outdoors through rain, sun, and air – completely naturally.

Depending on the weather, the process starts after a few days and develops into the protective rust layer within a few weeks.

The gray surface is therefore not a defect but the natural starting point for the durable Corten steel look.
